Heart Failure

Heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure, is a chronic condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough to meet the body’s needs for blood and oxygen—meaning the heart cannot keep up with the body.

Heart failure symptoms can be progressive and ongoing over time, or symptoms can suddenly appear. Common signs of heart failure include fatigue and weakness, shortness of breath, rapid or irregular heartbeat, swelling of the lower legs and more. If not properly managed, heart failure can progressively worsen. However, when properly managed with medications, ongoing medical supervision and healthy lifestyle changes, many people with heart failure can live a full and enjoyable life.
